Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA)which was started by the government of Karnataka under the BMRDA Act 1985. BMRDA is started for the purpose of planning, co coordinating and supervising the development areas within Bangalore Metropolitan Region (BMR). It plays a major role in the evolution of urban development.
BMR has two separate zones i.e Area Planning Zone (APZ) and Interstitial Zone (IZ). The Area Planning Zone (APZ) is the area where urban development is permitted subject to certain regulations. The Interstitial Zone (IZ) are the areas lying between APZ’s where urban activities are restricted due to the issues like conservation of forest area, agriculture etc.
Some of the planning authorizes are functioning in BMR. They are Bangalore Development Authority [BDA], Anekal Planning Authority [APA], Nelamangal Planning Authority [NPA], Magadi Planning Authority [MPA], Hosakote Planning Authority [HPA].
